November Theater at Virginia – SATCHMO AT THE WALDORF
In this one-man, three-character play, Richmond favorite, Jerold Solomon, portrays Louis Armstrong, the greatest of all jazz trumpeters; Joe Glaser, his white manager; and Miles Davis, who admired Armstrong’s playing, but detested his onstage manner. In 1971, in a dressing room backstage at the Empire Room of New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, four months prior to his death, Armstrong attempts to come to terms with his long-standing relationship with Glaser, whom he once loved like a father but now believes to have betrayed him. We will stop at the Cracker Barrel in Ashland for lunch ($18 gift card).
We will depart Manassas at 9:45 a.m. and Woodbridge at 10:30 a.m. Return time is approximately 5:00 p.m.
