My husband and I on vacation from New Zealand, along with a friend who is a D.C. local, took this tour this afternoon — we had been planning to walk the National Mall but unfortunately my dodgy knee decided not to cooperate. Our guide, Joan, was absolutely incredible — she had so much knowledge of the different attractions and her commentary was really funny as well as educational. We had such a fantastic time with both Joan and the driver Shawn, and would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the best of D.C. with limited time!!
My husband had an awesome tour with guide Joan and driver Tyrone. We came very early so we ended up being the only ones for a while so Joan sat right with us like our own private guide. She was very kind, informative, and actually cared about what we thought regarding the sites we saw. She also was not boring like some others we have dealt with elsewhere. This was the perfect ending to our first trip in DC!! Thanks JOAN and DC Tours!
Our family just recently took a trip to DC for the weekend. We were overwhelmed with a what to see first. DC Trails made it super easy for us. For a low price, our drive and guided Thomas Hobbs aka Big Sarge showed us around the town. He told us information , only found in history books. It was the best way to see all of DC in one day!!! BEST TOUR BUS EXPERIENCE EVER!!!
We did the Grand tour the week before thanksgiving and it was a blast. Thomas Hobbs was our driver and he was very knowledgeable of the cities and sites, and answered all our questions. We hit pretty much all of the major sites and he was very good in giving us plenty of time at the different monuments. I would highly recommend this tour and Thomas.
We learned so much from our knowledgable and enthusiastic driver, Joshua, who chatted with us, answered questions and navigated that huge tour bus through Alexandria like it was a smart car! His comments help to set the stage for our Mt. Vernon tour, we highly recommend this company. They did a quick and efficient pickup and drop off at the JW Marriott near the White House. Worth every penny!
Thomas Hobbs, aka Sgt., gave us a fabulous tour of the city. We had a Double Decker enclosed bus and we sat in the front row on the top for a wonderful view. There is not one highlight of DC or the surrounding areas that we missed. Our guide had the best sense of humor and had us laughing and feeling right at home from the minute we met each other. We took an all day tour and felt that Sarge knew everything about everything. Such a knowledgeable man and it made for a fascinating day. Thank you.
We loved our tour. All the drivers and guides that we experienced were awesome and full of informative facts. We had no problems with waiting for our buses. they always came every 30-40 minuets as promised. I would recommend this tour to any one traveling to the DC area. when we come back in the spring were going to use them again!
We purchased the 2 day package 2 adults, 2 kids under 12 for 158 USD. This included a free night tour (which was the highlight of our DC visit). The night tour began at 7pm and was approximately 3 hours long. With the day tour at each stop you can get off and wait for the next tour bus 30-40 minutes. With the night tour, the bus stopped gave appropriate time at each site, and resumed the tour when all had re-boarded loved this.
The buses were beautiful, with both open top floor seating and indoor warm lower level seating. Clean, efficient restrooms right on board (I didn’t recall those on the NYC or Boston tours we have been on in the past).
We also used the tour bus to maneuver the city for 48 hours. Though bus runs only 9-5 it worked well for us. The tour guides and drivers were professional and knowledgeable. Roughly 20 stops, but drivers work hard to please and our night time tour guide took us a bit off the route to get us back to our car in the lot. We witnessed kindness with all of our drivers and tour guides. Having spent 2 days on and off the bus, we experienced many drivers and guides. All professional and kind.
We parked in the Colonial Parking lot (20 day) and very easy access to stop #4 the Air and Space Museum which was one black away. This was an excellent base for all of our visiting and tour.
Definitely recommend DC trails. We tool the advice of another reviewer and did the complete tour first. Then decided what stops we wanted to get off and explore further. This helped tons.
I took my grandson to Washington DC for his 16th birthday! We agreed that a tour bus would be great! We were so happy that we took DC Trails and had Sgt. Hobbs as our guide. He was personable, knowledgeable, respectful and so funny! We had the best time laughing and leaning at each stop. I highly recommend this company but even more “The Sgt. Hobbs” as you guide. I give them a 10!!!!!
I took my parents visiting from Czech Republic on this tour, and it was perfect! We visited just the right amount of DC attractions during the tour. Our tour guide was Mr. Thomas Hobbs, and he made the tour a fun experience. Thomas was very knowledgeable about all the sites’ history and always added plenty of interesting facts that made us chuckle. This is NOT a hop-on hop-off tour. The bus drove us to an attraction, let us explore for about 15 minutes, and waited to take us to the next one. We also stopped for 45 minutes to have lunch. The bus was very clean, with a bathroom, and just the right temperature. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to explore DC in a relaxed manner.
DC is a fairly compact city and all the sites are relatively close together, but being winter and being with older parents with bad knees – the hop and and hop off bus was great. We did a loop, seeing all the sites first from the bus (we even rode outside…in January no less!) – and then did another loop getting off at the places we wanted to see (White House, Lincoln Memorial etc).
The guides can be a little hit and miss. Our first guy was great – he had good stories and insight and was very clear and easy to understand. Whereas another girl we got mumbled and spoke so quickly that I could only understand every second thing she said.
The bus hits all the major sites, is very comfy and has a bathroom on board. I thought it was great value…especially if you’ll be in town a few days…good way to get around.
Me and my husband were in Washington DC last January. We wanted to visit the most possible monuments in just 3 days, so we decided to do a grand all day tour in DC trails. The experience was awsome!, We were just 3 people in the bus that day and the driver-guide (grand captain called ) was the best. He taught us a lot of curious details and history with jokes. It was a very funny day!
FANTASTIC! Thoroughly enjoyed my tour today. Robert Johnson and Kevin Trainor were not only enjoyable but extremely knowledgeable. I would DEFINITELY take this tour again.
I enjoyed this tour so much. I had no expectations, but was so pleasantly surprised. I was picked up at my hotel by my driver John, and then John picked up 3 more guests. So the 4 of us had this huge bus and John to ourselves. John is very knowledgeable in DC history and was able to answer all of our questions. He ensured we got to Arlington National Cemetery in time for the changing of the guard. I would highly recommend DC Trails, and John, for the best tour possible!
Henry kept all aboard informed and smiling. His vast knowledge of the many stops added to the tour, in such that all aboard learned lots of new facts about the history of DC. He answered inquiries cheerfully and always with a “That’s a great question….” Nick kept one and all safe throughout the journey! Smooth sailing. Both should be commended and our family will recommend to family and friends visiting the area.
We were a group of 2 couples ((23 years old)) and we absolutely loved this tour ! We HIGHLY recommend Henry as a tour guide ! In fact we did almost a full loop because we didn’t want to leave him and get stuck with someone else ! He was sooo informative. We booked through living social, so we had an amazing deal !! We plan to go back on for a few hours tomorrow ! A great way to see the city !!
Big Sarg is one of the best driver I have had in a while he gave lots of info was nice and funny. Knows the city really well and knows some shortcuts. Really recommend him!
Sarge Hobbs was our driver/tour guide and he was outstanding! Our bus of 43 eighth graders were engaged the entire trip. His sense of humor, jokes, and interesting facts kept them completely entertained and asking for more trivia questions! He skillfully navigated the crazy DC traffic to get us to appointments on time, and was so flexible with adjusting to our frequently changing schedule. The bus was clean and comfortable, and we all enjoyed the wifi and charging outlets so we never missed a picture due to a dead phone, and we could easily post our adventures for family at home. I would highly recommend this tour company, and especially this driver. 🙂
Sarge was the best bus driver ever!! He had so many fun facts to tell us about Washington D.C. He was extremely nice, and always made us laugh! My trip was 10x better because of him.
We had an awesome bus driver and his name was sarge. He was the funniest and best bus driver ever. The guy was the GOAT and he always said “Yeah Boiiii” Sarge was a clown and going to miss him.
Bus 165 was so fun & entertaining with Sergeant (Serg) driving! He made the trip so enjoyable! Such a funny guy and great tour guide.
