The NASA Wallops Visitor Center & The Wild Ponies of Chincoteague

Today, you will be visiting the Assateague Island National Seashore. It is a serene, yet fun filled, tourist destination. Chincoteague Island is Virginia’s only resort Island. It is located on Virginia’s Eastern Shore and is the gateway to the Virginia portion of Assateague Island, home of the famous Chincoteague Wild Ponies. We will enjoy a leisurely two-hour cruise aboard the Assategue Explorer taking in the sights of the wildlife area and perhaps a close-up view of the wild ponies. We will enjoy lunch which is included at AJ’s At the Creek [With your reservation advise your choice of Fried flounder or fried oysters with cole slaw and onion rings) plus the dessert of the day. From here we are headed to take in the past, present, and future of NASA’s Flight Facility. The Visitor Center offers many great exhibits as testimony to the amazing things done at Wallops in addition to serving as a prime viewing location for rocket launches by the cycles of the moon. We will depart Manassas at 5:45 a.m. and Wood bridge at 6:30 a.m. Return time is approximately 8:30 p.m. NOTE: A fast-food dinner stop on your own will be made.
